MapMC FAQ: World Generation and Downloads
This MapMC FAQ answers the questions to check before generating a world: which Minecraft edition to choose, what files you receive, how map data affects the result and how long your download link lasts. Is MapMC affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft?+
No. MapMC is an independent third-party tool, not affiliated with Mojang Studios or Microsoft. Minecraft is a trademark of Mojang Studios.
Do I need to own Minecraft to use MapMC?+
MapMC delivers a Java world ZIP or a Bedrock .mcworld package. To play the world, you need a licensed copy of the matching Minecraft edition on a device with a supported import route. MapMC does not include the game or a Minecraft licence.
Can I use MapMC worlds in commercial projects (YouTube videos, streams)?+
Yes — the world files we generate are yours. Note that displaying Minecraft gameplay is subject to Mojang's brand guidelines for monetized content. See www.minecraft.net/usage-guidelines.
How long does generation take?+
World files usually take a few minutes. Large areas can take 30 minutes or longer, depending on complexity and queue time.
What's the maximum area I can generate?+
Standard detail supports up to 40 km² for Java and 32 km² for Bedrock. High detail remains limited to 5 km².
Bedrock or Java — which should I pick?+
Choose your playing device first. MapMC matches Java or Bedrock; on Windows, use the game’s home-screen buttons to identify your edition. Phones use Bedrock. Consoles need another supported device and your own editable Bedrock Realm; confirm that route before generating.
Why is my generated world mostly empty?+
MapMC uses OpenStreetMap data. If the area you picked has sparse or no OSM coverage (rural or unmapped regions), the world will mostly be terrain. Try picking a city instead.
How long are generated files kept?+
Generated-world download links normally expire 30 days after generation finishes successfully. Save the Java ZIP or Bedrock .mcworld package to your own storage before the link expires, and keep a separate backup. The expiry shown on your download page is the deadline for that job.
Can I delete my account?+
Yes. In Settings, choose Delete account, type your registered email address, then use the one-time link we send and give one final confirmation. Opening the email link alone never deletes the account.
Is there a browser-based alternative to Arnis?+
MapMC is an independent browser-based service built on the open-source Arnis engine. It handles generation online and delivers a Java ZIP or Bedrock .mcworld. MapMC is not the official Arnis or MapSmith website.
How do I inspect the generated world?+
Download the Java ZIP or Bedrock .mcworld file, import it into Minecraft, and inspect the complete world in game.
What map data does MapMC use?+
MapMC converts mapped roads, building footprints, water and other OpenStreetMap features into Minecraft blocks, with terrain data. Missing or simplified source data affects the result; exact facades and interiors are not guaranteed.
Can I choose Credits or pay once?+
Yes. After drawing an area, the generator shows the final Credits and USD totals. Use Credits for better value or open Stripe Checkout for a one-time payment. The two methods are never partially mixed.
How is my map price calculated?+
Every selected area uses the same 1.0× rate worldwide. The generator shows the final Credits and USD totals before confirmation.
What happens when generation fails?+
Balance payments are restored automatically when an eligible generation fails; direct-payment refunds to the original payment method are processed asynchronously. Eligible generation failures follow the Refund Policy.
Is MapMC free to try?+
Yes. Registration and browsing are free. New accounts receive a one-time $3 balance, which can be combined with purchased balance; it cannot pay for a map by itself. The balance never expires. Eligible generation failures follow the Refund Policy.
Does MapMC use AI to generate the world?+
World generation converts geographic data into Minecraft blocks using Arnis. The AI texture generator is a separate tool for creating Minecraft-style textures; it does not reconstruct a city from a photo.
