How to import a .mcworld file into Minecraft

The exact share or open menu varies by device, but the import flow is usually the same.

    Download the .mcworld file

    When generation finishes, open My Worlds and download the Bedrock file to your device.

    Choose Open with Minecraft

    Open the downloaded file and select Minecraft if your browser or file manager asks which app to use.

    Wait for the import

    Minecraft starts and displays the import progress. Keep the app open until the success message appears.

    Find the world under Play

    Open Play and look near the top of your Worlds list. The imported world is now stored locally.

What is a .mcworld file?

A .mcworld file is a packaged Minecraft Bedrock world. It can contain terrain, structures, and the metadata Bedrock needs to add the world to your local library.

Which devices can import it?

Windows, Android, iPhone, and iPad normally support direct .mcworld imports when Minecraft is installed. Menus differ by browser and operating system.

  • Windows: open the file from Downloads.
  • Android: use Files or your browser download list.
  • iPhone and iPad: use Share, then choose Minecraft.
  • Consoles: direct browser import is usually unavailable. Use Realms on a supported device to transfer the world.

Import troubleshooting

If Minecraft does not appear in the Open With or Share menu, move the file to local storage and try from the device's Files app. Confirm the filename still ends in .mcworld.

If import reports a duplicate or failed world, remove the earlier partial import, confirm enough free storage is available, restart Minecraft, and try again.
